Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has officially welcomed its new President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole, who assumed office on Monday 1st December, 2025, marking the beginning of a new leadership era at the faith-based institution.
Prof. Ojewole, a distinguished scholar and former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the institution, takes over from Prof. Ademola Tayo, whose tenure ended after 10 years of transformative growth and infrastructural expansion in the university.
Speaking at a grand handover ceremony held at the University Sports Compex, Prof. Ojewole expressed gratitude to the Governing Council for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to consolidate ongoing reforms and strengthen Babcock University’s reputation for academic excellence, discipline and global competitiveness.
“I am committed to deepening our culture of integrity, innovation and service. Babcock University will continue to produce graduates who are morally upright and globally relevant,” he said, assuring staff and students of an inclusive and development-driven administration.
The University Chancellor, Prof. Bassey Udoh, in his remarks, described Prof. Ojewole as a visionary leader whose wealth of experience would further position the institution as a hub of quality education and research in Nigeria and beyond.
Staff members, faculty and student representatives expressed optimism that the new leadership would sustain the university’s Seventh-day Adventist values while elevating standards in teaching, research and community service.
Prof. Ojewole, a Professor of Old Testament and Church Ministry with decades of administrative and academic experience, is expected to steer the institution into its next phase of growth as it expands programmes, strengthens partnerships and enhances campus facilities.
His assumption of office marks a significant milestone in Babcock University’s mission to remain a leading private university in West Africa.
