The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced an extension of the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session student loan scheme, giving hopeful applicants extra time to complete and submit their forms.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Strategic Communications for NELFUND, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the deadline, originally set for January 31, 2026, has been pushed forward to February 27, 2026. The decision is part of the Fund’s efforts to ensure broader access and participation by students nationwide.
According to the statement, the extension aims to provide prospective applicants with more time to finalise and submit their applications, particularly accommodating those who may have encountered technical or documentation challenges during the initial period.
Speaking on the development, NELFUND Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, said the move reflects the Fund’s commitment to inclusivity and fairness in education financing. He emphasised that the extension will help ensure that no eligible Nigerian student is excluded from accessing the federal student loan due to timing constraints.
“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” The MD said.
He therefore encouraged all prospective applicants who are yet to apply or complete their applications to take advantage of the extended deadline and ensure that all required information is submitted on or before 27 February 2026.
