Lagos State University (LASU), a premier institution dedicated to excellence in research and education, has extended heartfelt felicitations to the forthcoming African Union’s workshop on Validation of Nigeria’s Strategic Document for Sustainable Implementation of Marine and Blue Economy, scheduled for October 14 to 16, 2024 in Abuja, and as well commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for its visionary step in establishing the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

These were contained in a goodwill message by Emeritus Professor Anetekhai Martins Agenuma of Lagos State University.

The Emeritus Professor, who will be representing the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello at the event, stated that the University acknowledged the African Union’s support in facilitating this workshop to validate the strategic document, crafted by renowned consultants.

He said, “Our university, with its Centres of Marine and Blue Economy and Centre of Excellence for Sargassum Research, is committed to contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s emergence as a leading player in the marine and blue economy sector. We recognize the transformative potential of this strategic document and pledge our expertise in research, skill delivery, and capacity building to support its successful implementation.

“We express interest in collaborative initiatives at national, regional, and continental levels, fostering synergy between academia, government, and industry stakeholders. By sharing knowledge and resources, we can collectively unlock the vast potential of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.

“We wish the workshop productive deliberations, fruitful outcomes, and enduring connections. May this gathering validate a robust strategic document, guiding Nigeria’s sustainable development and prosperity.”
