University of Lagos has been ranked 401- 500 in the first edition of the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR).

Released on Thursday, November 21, 2024, the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR), launched in association with Schmidt Science Fellows, is the first effort of its kind to measure universities’ contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science. Interdisciplinary scientific research holds the promise of unlocking lessons from multiple academic disciplines to solve global challenges.

The rankings was meticulously conducted based on eighteen (18) carefully calibrated performance indicators, and judges research-intensive universities across the following core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The ISR methodology consists of three pillars, each representing a stage in the life cycle of research projects: inputs, process and outputs. Each pillar is further divided into metrics to measure different aspects of that stage.

The top ranked universities worldwide for interdisciplinary science research with the inaugural Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, is a project in association with Schmidt Science Fellows.

They have ranked 749 universities from 92 countries/territories, a record for a new ranking. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), United States is number one in the world for interdisciplinary science with high scores for outputs and process. The highest ranked university outside the US is National University of Singapore at number three, while Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University in Saudi Arabia has the highest score under the inputs pillar. Stanford University, ranked number two, has the highest score under the outputs pillar, while the country with the largest number of ranked universities is India with 65, followed by Turkey with 45.
