Prof. Idowu elected 10th LASUCOM Provost

The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) on Tuesday, 17th December 2024, conducted an election exercise for the position of Provost of the College with the current Deputy Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu emerging as winner.

As reported by the Information Unit at LASUCOM, Prof. Idowu defeated Prof. Mobolaji Oludara, the former Acting Provost, with 108 to 21 votes to emerge as 10th Provost of the College.

The exercise, which took place at the Medical Sciences Auditorium, witnessed an impressive voter turnout comprised of members of the college’s Academic Staff Assembly with a total of 129 votes cast.

The process was overseen by the Chief Electoral Officer and Registrar of the University, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, who was ably represented by the College Secretary, Mr O. A. Oyebanjo and lauded by observers for its transparency and adherence to electoral standards.

The newly elected Provost of LASUCOM will assume office on Thursday, 26th December 2024, following the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Provost, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, on Wednesday, 25th December 2024.

Speaking to LASUCOM Information immediately after the announcement of his victory, Prof. Idowu expressed gratitude to the college community and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusive leadership.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, congratulated Prof. Idowu on his election and wishes him well in his tenure.
