The Federal Government has officially adopted Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ogun State, as a Federal University.

This was made known on Sunday March 9, 2025 by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Established in 2005, TASUED is Nigeria’s first specialised University of Education and the first federally owned tertiary institution in Ogun East.

President Bola Tinubu approved the transition on Friday March 7, 2025, acknowledging the Ogun State Government’s invitation. He highlighted that the move honours Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. Tai Solarin for their contributions to education. He also recognized the Awujale of Ijebuland’s role in saving the institution from closure in 2012.

TASUED’s federal status aligns with the government’s goal of strengthening teacher education. It now joins Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and Adeyemi Federal University of Education as Nigeria’s three universities of education.
