UNILAG hosts Denmark Ambassador, Danish Consul-General, commit to students’ exchange

The University of Lagos Management, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, played host to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Nigeria, Jen Ole Bach Hansen and the Danish Consul-General in Lagos, Jette Bjerrum. The visit marked a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and enriching students’ academic and cultural experiences.The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), UNILAG, Prof. Bola Oboh, along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Muyiwa Falaiye; Registrar, Mrs. Abosede Wickliffe and Director, Academic Planning, Professor Mathew Ilori; received the delegation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Folasade Ogunsola.Prof. Oboh expressed enthusiasm about building a long-term relationship between UNILAG and Danish institutions, while highlighting the University’s ongoing efforts to internationalize its curriculum and increase opportunities for students as well as faculties through strategic partnerships. She reterated UNILAG’s commitment to research in food security in urban spaces, renewable energy and other solution-driven efforts through the various innovation hubs on campus.Similarly, Prof. Falaiye pointed out collaborative prospects in the areas of Arts and African Studies.Prof. Oboh and Prof. Falaiye assured of the University’s readiness to initiate projects which would foster innovation and build stronger ties between UNILAG and Denmark.In his remarks, the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jen Ole Bach Hansen acknowledged the serenity and warm ambience on the UNILAG Campus. While applauding UNILAG’s commitment to academic excellence and cultural diversity, the Diplomat emphasized Denmark’s readiness to deepen its diplomatic engagements in Africa, with Nigeria as the regional hub. He said the goal is to facilitate collaborations between universities in Nigeria and Denmark, create opportunities for students’/faculty exchange and scale up existing MoU between UNILAG and any university in Denmark.Also in her remarks, the Danish Consul-General in Lagos, Jette Bjerrum said the diplomatic visit aimed to strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, arts, and cultural exchange.The two parties left the meeting with a resolve to explore potential areas of partnership, with particular emphasis on student exchange, research collaboration and the promotion of creative arts.
