UNIPORT, three state universities acknowledges receipt of over N708.1m students loan from NELFUND

University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT), Port-Harcourt, Rivers State; Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka; Borno State University (BOSU), Maiduguri, and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu have acknowledged the sum of N708,156,711.00 being students loan disbursement to them by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as at August 31, 2025.
In their respective acknowledgement letters to NELFUND which were made available to Nigerian Impact as at August 31, 2025, they all appreciated and commended President Bola Tinubu and the Management of NELFUND for the laudable initiative.
The breakdown of the total sum of N708,156,711.00 are as follows:
In a letter to NELFUND dated August 13, 2025, the Vice Chancellor of University of Port-Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewell, acknowledged receipt of the sum of N147,000,736.00 only being loan disbursement for 1,363 students of the University on the 4th of July, 2025.
The Vice Chancellor assured that the University Management have commenced refund to student beneficiaries who had earlier paid their school charges.
While the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, in a letter to NELFUND dated August 26, 2025, acknowledged receipt of the sum of N185,969,000.00 only being loan for 2,143 students.
The Registrar of DELSU, Mrs. R. U. Ufiofio, in a letter to NELFUND dated 21st August, 2025, acknowledged receipt of the sum of N213,218,275,000.00 only being loan for 1,519 students on 13tht June, 2025.
She said this intervention will significantly alleviate the financial burden on the University students and their families, enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits. “We comment NELFUND for its commitment to advancing accessible education in Nigeria. We express our profound gratitude and looking forward to sustainable collaboration,” the Registrar said.
The Vice-Chancellor of BOSU, Prof. Babagana Gutti, in a letter to NELFUND dated 22nd August, 2025, acknowledged receipt of the sum of N161,968,700.00 only being loan disbursement for 2,400 students.
The Management of the University therefore expressed appreciation for the due diligence and transparent process employed in the selection of student beneficiaries. “We look forward for future support to our students and the disbursement of the loan to the subsequent batches,” the VC said.
NELFUND remains committed to ensuring transparency, accessibility, and efficiency as the process continues, and called on all stakeholders to join in supporting the vision of equitable education for all.
