LICGI, CYNA honours LASU VC for Leadership and educational impact

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, on Wednesday 7th January, 2026 received two awards from the Lagos Island Childhood Gist Initiative (LICGI) and the Council of Nigeria Youth Advocate (CYNA) in recognition of her leadership, contributions to education, and commitment to youth and societal development.

The presentations were held at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, main campus, Ojo.

The LICGI presented the Vice-Chancellor with an ‘Award of Recognition and Appreciation’ for her outstanding contributions to education, exemplary leadership, and commitment to the development of children and youths.

Speaking at the presentation, the President of LICGI, Hon. Mudirakat Ajibona, described the ceremony as a celebration of excellence and service. She noted that the association’s awards are not based on popularity or material considerations but are reserved for individuals distinguished by integrity, service, and measurable impact. She added that the presentation coincided with 10 years of purposeful engagement by the association and celebrated Prof. Olatunji-Bello as a proud Lagos Island daughter and academic icon whose life continues to inspire future generations.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor had received the ‘Outstanding Leadership Award 2026’ from the Council of Nigeria Youth Advocate (CYNA), recognising her as a Peak Performer and Icon of Educational Transformation for her contributions to youth and women’s empowerment, philanthropy, and educational advancement.

Presenting the award, the President of CYNA, Amb. Haruna Gambar, commended Prof. Olatunji-Bello’s transformational leadership, citing improvements in educational quality, research output, and collaboration between academia and industry, which have strengthened LASU’s standing among Nigeria’s leading universities.

Responding, Prof. Olatunji-Bello thanked LICGI and CYNA for the honours and emphasised the importance of striving for excellence and maintaining a shared vision with management and staff. She acknowledged the support of past and present members of the University Management, staff, and stakeholders across Lagos State, noting that the achievements recorded were the product of collective effort.

Members of the University Management in attendance include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin; the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel FANU; the representative of the University Bursar, Mr Jerry Jinadu; and the University Librarian, Dr Omawumi Makinde.

Also present were the Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr Lateef Sekoni; the Deputy Registrar and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Salami and other senior officers of the University.
