The Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Lagos State, Mr Tolani Sule, has stated that the State Government putting efforts to upgrade the status of the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) to grant it autonomy.
The Commissioner made this known during while delivery his keynote address at the opening ceremony of a two-day management retreat held on Thursday, 26th September 2024 in Lagos.
Sule highlighted that achieving this upgrade would enhance the college’s reputation and provide it with its own salary scale, employment, and promotion structures. This change he said is expected to motivate staff to pursue further academic qualifications. He assured attendees that the ministry would soon introduce a new nomenclature that would benefit the college.
The Commissioner urged all staff, particularly academic staff, to enhance their skills and innovate in their teaching methods to align with global educational standards.
The Provost, LASCOHET, Professor Raheem Akewushola KEWUSHOLA, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, for his dedication to fostering a conducive teaching, learning, and community service environment at LASCOHET, noting the importance of achieving full accreditation for all academic programmes offered by the college.
Prof. Akewushola also stated that the retreat, themed “Creating a Global Standard Learning Culture for Lagos State College of Health Technology,” is vital for aligning stakeholders and pursuing strategic goals aimed at developing a highly skilled workforce for Lagos State’s primary and secondary health sectors.
He described the retreat as an opportunity for social interaction among top college officials, enabling them to refresh and strategise. He emphasised the need for all stakeholders to align with the six strategic goals of his administration to enhance the LASCOHET brand and make it a top choice for education in the country.
The retreat featured presentations from notable speakers, including Professor Sylvester Fajoyomi, who discussed “Attributes of an Academic Leader and Basic Etiquette of a Scholar.”
Honourable Lukman Olumoh, represented by Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, spoke on “Budgeting and Roles of Stakeholders in its Implementation,” while Mr Samuel Fadipe addressed “Digitalsing Students’ Registrations and Results Uploading.”
In conclusion to Day-One of the retreat, the vote of thanks was delivered by the Registrar, LASCOHET, Mr Idris Adelakun, who expressed appreciation to all participants for their contributions and engagement throughout the event. He highlighted the significance of the insights gained during the sessions and encouraged everyone to implement the strategies discussed.
Top officials present include the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mr Adeniran Kasali, Members of Management, LASCOHET, Deans of schools, and senior college officials. The two-day management retreat ends on Friday, 27th September 2024.
