The officials of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Lagos, have assured students of Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) of their safety in any part of Nigeria they are posted to serve.

The assurance was given by the Chief Inspection Officer, NYSC, Lagos Office, Mrs. Modupe Adesoji, during the NYSC Pre-Mobilisation sensitisation held at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Ikeja Campus, Lagos recently.

During questions and answers session, Mrs. Adesoji allayed the fear of the majority of the final year students, who were skeptical about safety and security in some parts of the country.

She stated that, “NYSC is present in all local government areas of the country and safety of corp members is our priority.”

She added that corp members would never be posted to crisis prone areas, stressing that they would rather be redeployed to other parts of the country that are well secured.

She urged the students to ensure all their documents are intact, noting that online registration should be done by themselves and not by proxy to avoid mistakes that could hinder their mobilisation.

The Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs, Lagos State University, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, in his welcome address, applauded the students for remaining the face of the university, while advising them to continue with the positive trajectory.

He noted the gains of the scheme since inception, which include patriotism, selfless service as well as loyalty to Nigeria. He enjoined them to give their best whenever they are mobilised and served the country.

“You must take ownership of the country as leaders of tomorrow and demonstrate that capacity to lead. The NYSC starts from now, through this sensitisation. Listen attentively as the sensitisation will provide you the right information to navigate the one year mandatory programme”, Dr. Fatai-Abatan said.

The Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs, Lagos State University, Mr. Abdulahmeed Lawal, in his opening remarks, charged the participants to know their roles as corp members and see the scheme as a platform to improve themselves as well as add great value to their fatherland.

He emphasised that the purpose of the sensitisation exercise was to get them prepared, informed, and address grey areas. He charged the students to be great ambassadors of LASU wherever they are posted.

Those in attendance include the Representative of the Deputy Registrar/Admission Officer, Mr Oluwaseye Erinle, and the ICT Officer, NYSC, Lagos, Mrs Moji Amodu.

Others were the Deputy Registrar/Students’ Affairs Officer, LASUCOM, Mrs. Adebisi Abisuga; Deputy Registrar/Head, NYSC, Mobilisation Unit, LASU, Mrs. Mulikat Olorunfunmi; Head, Students’ Disciplinary Unit, Students’ Affairs, LASU, Mr Kehinde Jinadu; Head, Students’ Welfare Unit, Students’ Affairs, LASU, Mr. Ibrahim Popoola and other staff of the Students’ Affairs Division.
