The Management of Lagos State University (LASU) has officially receieved students of the University of Chicago, United States who are currently on an exchange programme at LASU. The students, Ayush Gupta and Gargi Mishra were formally received on Tuesday June 17, 2025 by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello at her office.

The move was facilitated by the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science, Prof. Benjamin Aribisala, who is leading Lagos State University’s participation in the tripartite partnership involving the University of Chicago, Lagos State University and the University of Ibadan.

Speaking at the VC’s office, Prof. Aribisala explained that the collaboration is part of LASU’s strategic effort to advance research and foster international academic partnerships, noting that the relationship between the institutions started in 2018.

He disclosed further that the visiting students are undertaking a 10-week academic and cultural immersion in Nigeria, during which they will engage with staff and students of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science. “The programme is designed to enrich their personal research while offering them firsthand experience of the Nigerian research environment and culture”, Prof. Aribisala stated.

In her remarks, Prof. Olatunji-Bello warmly welcomed the students to Lagos State University, assuring them that they were in the right place to learn from a distinguished faculty and immerse themselves in Nigerian society.

She reiterated the university’s reputation as the best in West Africa, as ranked by the UI GreenMetric Global Ranking, describing LASU as a premier hub for learning, innovation, and international engagement.

She encouraged the students to make the most of their stay, academically and culturally.

In their response, the two students of Indian origin expressed excitement at being in the university and promised to learn as much as they could from the university.

The meeting was attended by members of university management, senior officials from the Vice-Chancellor’s office, and staff of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science.
