The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed readiness to collaborate with Loughborough University, United Kingdom (UK) to support structural transformation in Nigeria’s education sector.

The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, stated this during a strategic dialogue with a delegation from Loughborough University at her office on Monday June 16, 2025 in Abuja.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnerships that will transform education, emphasizing that no nation can thrive in isolation. She identified priority areas for collaboration including STEM, TVET, quality education, girl-child education, addressing out-of-school children, and integrating Almajiri education into the formal system.

She emphasized six ministerial priorities and the need to build on existing structures. While noting a significant budget for research, she stressed the importance of translating research into national impact.

“It is not just about conducting the research, but ensuring it benefits the country”, she said.

She also announced the establishment of two committees on Transnational Education (TNE) to explore six university partnership models.

Pro Vice-Chancellor at Loughborough, Prof. Sam Grogan pledged collaboration aligned with Nigeria’s national priorities.

Deputy Executive Secretary (Administration), NUC, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, reiterated support for quality partnerships under the 2023 TNE guidelines.

The dialogue ended with interactive sessions that laid a strong foundation for future collaboration.
